Foul.
2024
Materials: Dyneema, nylon, carbon, neoprene.
Processes: Machine sewing, pattern making.
Done for senior thesis, this speculative project explored
designing extreme environment sailing gear while attempting to
limit design process waste by using discarded sail material for
development.
The project started by identifying issues
current users had with their foul weather gear through an online
survey that was shared with industry professionals and
recreational users. This data revealed places to innovate such as
limiting the use of Velcro and more need for modularity. From
there a series of prototyping and testing rounds took place,
culminating in a wearable prototype jacket.
